Intro to Junior Speech

Prerequisite

  • 10 years old by August 1, 2025
  • This is a 2-day camp (9AM – 5PM)

This summer camp provides the students a crash course in the basics of speech, offering a chance to improve their communication skills in a challenging but secure environment and lay the foundation for the academic year ahead.

Additionally, parents and students will have the opportunity to evaluate our program and for our coaches to gauge the student’s level of interest, readiness, and ability to partake in the full academic year program.

The Junior students will be introduced to two categories of speeches and will be taught facets of speech, ranging from vocal delivery skills to physical delivery as well as the general foundation for overall effective communication. The goal during the summer camp is to gain the student’s confidence and trust in our ability to get them out of their comfort zone.

Students in this age group will have a combination of lectures and lots of drills and practice throughout both days so that they can realize that Speech is an art form and that they will get better with practice. Recognizing that their attention span is limited, we will have breaks and games interspersed throughout both days. They are always monitored and they will not be stepping outside for their own safety.

Additionally, parents and students will have the opportunity to evaluate our program and for our coaches to gauge the student’s level of interest, readiness and ability to partake in the full academic year program.

Students in this Senior group will be introduced to two categories of speech to help them understand the foundation of public speaking, the benefit of this art and to help them start to overcome their fear and nerves. They are taught facets of this art, ranging from vocal delivery skills (such as inflection, modulation, and volume variance) to physical delivery as well as the general foundation for overall effective communication. The content taught and the drills that the students will engage in will be more complex than that of the younger age groups.
